Large Field Polariscopes – Strainoptics Large Strain Viewers for Qualitative Inspection of Glass Stress Patterns
Strain Viewers (polariscopes) are suitable for inspection of nearly any size product. In clear and translucent polymers, residual strains become visible when viewed with Strainoptics’ polariscopes. The strains appear as a colorful fringe pattern, which reveals a wealth of information.
A comprehensive instruction manual teaches you how to interpret the color pattern. In production, this simple test can quickly identify defective parts and alert operators to adjust process parameters. The procedure is non-destructive and fast!
Quantitative measurements can also be obtained for many applications with an optional compensator, in accordance with ASTM test methods.

The SV-3000 polariscope is similar to the SV-2000 but is bigger, with a viewing area of 22 inches (560 mm) square. This polariscope is large and industrial and can handle multiple items at a time.

Also available with circular or plane polarization (Specify).
Separate vertically oriented analyzer and polarized illuminator for larger or deeper samples. Horizontal lightpath only.
Viewing area: 250 x 280 mm (10 x 11 inches).

Unlike simple crossed polarizers, our polariscopes use circular polarizers which assure that stresses are properly observed regardless of specimen position or orientation.
A plane-polarized model is available for glass applications – specify Model SV-2000-P.
Typical applications of Strainoptics’ polariscopes (strain viewers) include:
-
Thermoformed packaging
-
Medical components
-
Automotive components
